SIMONE

Born in Bangalore, India, I identify as Tamilian with Egyptian ancestry. Having the privilege of growing up in Lagos, London, Singapore and Hong Kong through my formative years, significantly contributed to an eclectic and holistic outlook that informs my life, work, and art, every day.

 

As a child, I was extremely curious and was very interested in life's deeper mysteries; ghosts, aliens, magic, etc etc. Which eventually manifested into deeper inquiries toward the meaning of life. I recall buying Eckhart Tolle's 'The Power of Now' from an airport bookshop when I was 12, not fully understanding what I was reading but knowing it evoked the same magic I felt from a fairytale. Thanks to my mother, I was introduced to Osho while I was in school (specifically through his interpretation of the word 'Fuck') which initiated a ritual of watching Osho videos as a practice of cultivating solace from the traumas I carried. Though spirituality found me young, it wasn't something I openly talked about, or identify with even now. To me, this is just a way of life that entails being fully present with the breath, body, and our surroundings- something we've forgotten to do as a species only very recently.

 

I too have been a casualty and participant of the patriarchal-capitalist system; having been swept away by the fashion industry (in the 90s) for its artistic significance, led me to pursue a degree at London College of Fashion. At the age of 18, I worked my first job at Prada in London, and continued to pursue fashion as an area of work, even after moving back to India years after. Setting up base in New Delhi,  I worked with international local brands across varying roles of business and operational development. From organising runway presentations at Paris Fashion Week, to closely working with founding partners to re-strategise their businesses, at 24 I was living my "fashion dream" - until I wasn't. My experience only further affirmed the industry's growing extractive nature which I didn't want to further contribute towards.

This awakening catalysed a shift in my career path, if I was spending 80-90% of my waking life working, then surely it must be for something meaningful to me- how could I be an effective agent for systemic healing and the expansion of collective consciousness? Thus began my journey as a meditation guide and conscious consultant. I now devote my time uplifting the wellbeing of others, while contributing to a world of peace.
